PLUG-IN HYBRID GREEN VEHICLES
Current model Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles
Plug-in hybrids are exactly what you might think - vehicles that plug-in for recharging their batteries. Most plug-in hybrids are passenger cars and owners typically use special outlets in home garages to plug-in and charge up. Plug-in hybrids are sometimes called grid-connected hybrids or gas-optional hybrids. Grid simply refers to the electric systems provided by utility companies around the country. When travelling short distances at low speeds, plug-ins take advantage of the gas optional feature that makes them so popular. When running only on electric power, there is a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions - even taking into account the energy production necessary for charging batteries. At highway speeds or for longer distances, plug-in hybirds switch to traditional combustion engines fueled by gasoline or diesel. Although consumer interest is high for auto manufacturers to offer plug-in hybrids, you can expect a wait before they become widely available.
